Animation studios in Canada are able to apply for funding 50 per cent of a production budget through the Federal funding body, Telefilm Canada. The country’s tax incentives have played an important role in helping Canada become a major force in the global animation industry. The public broadcasting requirements mandates Canadian broadcasters to include children's programming, of which at least 50 per cent should be indigenous programming. Canadian animation studios already collaborate with many international studios and are also looking at opportunities for expansion in Asia in territories such as South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and India. Low cost advantages have resulted in Canadian animation studios outsourcing a large proportion of their work abroad. Rising production costs are making it very difficult for Canadian animation studios to leverage local talent. Canada's largest animation firms include Nelvana based in Toronto and Cinar Corp. in Montreal. Other key studios are Mainframe Entertainment, Studio B Productions, Natterjack Animation, Delaney and Friends Cartoon Productions, Bardel Animation, Rainmaker Digital Pictures and Electronic Arts.
