The Target Corporation will make New Year's Eve in New York's Times Square even more exciting by passing out 30,000 pairs of 3-D glasses.

The 3-D glasses will transform the fireworks into glowing "Target bull's-eyes" and allow viewers to see a giant Target logo coming out of the 1,070-pound ball as it drops on New Year's Eve, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

The "Hope for Peace" theme of this year's New Year's gala seems appropriate since a survey conducted by the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment said 47 percent of its respondents said they expect 2007 to be less peaceful.

"New Year's Eve is about celebration, but it's also a time for people reflect to on where we've been over the past year and where we're going," said Tim Tompkins, president of the Times Square Alliance.

This year will be the final year that the 6-foot-wide ball will feature hope-themed crystals from Ireland.
