A list of sixteen full-length animated features that are vying for an Oscar, has been announced. The short-list for the 79th annual Academy Awards in this category means that five films could be nominated once the decisions are made.

The titles in the list include ‘Cars,’ ‘Monster House,’ and a flurry of animated animals like ‘Happy Feet,’ ‘The Wild,’ ‘Over the Hedge,’ ‘The Ant Bully’ and ‘Ice Age: The Meltdown.’

‘Scanner Darkly,’ the painterly live action feature is also in contention. There are also three that have not yet had their LA based release, which is a prerequisite for selection. ‘Happy Feet,’ ‘Paprika’ and ‘Arthur and the Invisible’ sprinkle their releases through November and December.

Nominations are to be announced January 23.
