Banding
An artifact that appears in areas of a colour gradient where the lack of sufficient colour resolution causes noticeable bands instead of a smooth transition. Also known as Contouring.

Beauty Pass
When shooting or rendering multiple passes, the beauty pass is the one that features the most significant information about the object, in contrast to the other passes such as the lighting pass, shadow pass, or reflection pass.

Bit Depth
A way of specifying the colour resolution in an image by measuring the number of bits devoted to each component of the pixels in the image.

Bit-Mapped Image
An image that consist of a rectangular, two-dimensional array of pixels. The standard method for representing an image in a digital format.

Byte (B), Kilobyte (kB), Megabyte (MB), Gigabyte (GB), Terabyte (TB)
1 Byte (B) = 8 bits (b) which can describe 256 discrete values (brightness, colour, etc.). 1kB = 1,024 bytes, 1 MB = 1,048,576 bytes, etc.
