Mask
An image used to selectively restrict or modify certain image processing operations on another image.

Match Move
The process of matching the CGI camera movements and settings to that of the live action footage. Usually a 3D process, as opposed to Tracking being 2D.

Matte
An image used to define or control the transparency of another image. Also called Articulate Matte, Complementary Matte, Difference Matte, Edge Matte, Fixed Matte, Garbage Matte, G-matte, Hold-out Matte, Rotoscoped Matte, Static Matte, Travel Matte & Key.

Matte Channel
Another name for the alpha channel in a four-channel image.

Matte Painting
A hand-painted image, usually intended to be photorealistic, that is combined with the live-action footage.

Motion Blur
An artifact caused by the fact that a camera’s shutter is open for a finite duration as it captures an image. Any objects that is moving during that time will appear blurred along the path that it was travelling.

Multimedia
A broad categorization that generally refers to some method of displaying information using sound and imagery simultaneously.
