Maya tutorial: The Projection of the Picture

Maya tutorial: The Projection of the Picture In this tutorial I want to tell you about projecting a picture onto an object. Not that many people are aware that you can map the picture according to the color attribute of the light. With this simple trick, you can add some really good effects and dynamic colorization to the scene.

The Projection of the Picture

STEP 1:

Create any primitive objects. In our case we were using these polygon primitives: Plane, Sphere, Cube, Cone and Cylinder

STEP 2:

Create a spot light.

STEP 3:

Select the light and click on checker icon next to the color attribute.

STEP 4:

Once the tab “Create Render Node” will appear, click on File.

STEP 5:

Now click on the yellow folder icon and browse your picture file you want to project. In the case of projecting a whole movie, tick the “Use Image Sequence” option.

You can map an image onto any type of the lights found in Maya. For a nice cinema projector simulation you can use spot lights as in this tutorial.

Click on the picture to download movie.
